taking power from midi

does the midivampire rely on the midi connector shield being grounded? I'm asking because not all midi cables have the shields connected, so in that case the midivamp wouldn't work with them.

good question. the MIDIvampire requires a 3-conductor MIDI cable, but does not require the shield to be grounded. the ground line is via the middle pin on the connector and not the shield. but, there are some cheap 2-conductor MIDI cables out there, so its something to watch out for.
